Do visitors to a Web site that uses Copysafe Pro software have to download the software to view the images. Does it matter where the Copysafe software is hosted: on ArtistScope servers or on another?

There is no software to download, but visitors do need to download the Copysafe plugin (similar to a Flash plugin)... including the installer it is only about 280k.

Plugin downloads can be provided from your web site or from your CD. When you register Copysafe Pro you get the full kit... program and plugin folder for your web site. The pages in the plugin folder can be edited for your look and feel, but care must be taken not to affect any code pertaining to the installation sequence which is optimized to ensure that:
a) the install works for all visitors/browsers
b) that the downloads are always available
c) every visitor gets the latest version

The plugin is occasionally upgraded to maintain compatibility with all browsers. When an upgrade is available we notify you of the download link. Then all you have to do is replace the installers and the version file. No images and pages need to be changed.

You answered my second question very well and the information was extremely useful, I still need clarification. If I purchase the license to use Copysafe on my web site, then visitors to my web site would be asked to load the small plugin to view the site. Therefore as I understand it, the plugin download can come from my server. Yes? To provide downloads on my web site, do I need to provide a CGI bin folder?

No cgi-bin is required... Copysafe Pro can be used on any ordinary web site run from any type of web server. The plugins can also be provided from any type of web site.

Copysafe Pro can also run from a CD or exe file while offline. See ArtisCD.

I'm a bit skeptical about my customers needing to take so much time to download the app before browsing?

Nobody needs to download an "application". To view Copysafe content they do need to download the plugin... just like for viewing Flash animations which 'everybody' seems to be using on their home pages these days.

Alternative (sic) copy protection systems require the visitor to download and install a separate viewing application or the images are served from the developer's server which means you are risking your content in their hands and also dependent on them staying in business.

With Copysafe all your visitors have to do is download the plugin, which with its installer is only about 280k. The one Copysafe plugin supports all viewers of Copysafe content whether from a web site or distributed on ArtistCD... worldwide!
