Is it possible to use Link Protect to block access to pictures from the directory that appears on the browser when you type www.site.com/images ? so that the pictures in "images" folder can only be accessed from www.site.com/webpage.htm and not from www.site.com/images directory?

That is precisely what Link Protect was designed to do.
However you should put the images in a folder that is used by Link Protect only (as in the documentation). Then those images will only be accessible from the pages on your web site.
